Solar Pump for Swimming Pool Circulation

Water pumps are the second biggest energy consumer in many homes. Solar powered pool pump keeps your pool crystal clear without any electricity bills.

DIFFUL solar pool pump uses a brushless DC motor which is very efficient, quiet and reliable. Solar pool pumps are a zero energy alternative to variable speed pool pumps with attractive returns.

Residential Pool

Residential pools typically have an aspect ratio of 2:1. The most common pool sizes you may find include: 12' x 24'; 15' x 36'; 16' x 32'; 20' x 40'.

These dimensions are for a rectangular pool. If you're interested in geometric or free-form pools, your pool won't follow the same proportions.

Commercial swimming pool

A 50-meter pool is considered an "Olympic-sized" pool and typically holds around 500,000 gallons of water. Furthermore, a true "Olympic size" swimming pool has a depth of at least two meters and has 10 lanes, each of which is two and a half meters wide.

Spa

The Greeks and Romans created thermal baths as a cure for ailments and stress.

A spa is a refreshing way to relax, recharge, and pamper yourself.

How Solar Power Works

  • When the sun shines on the surface of your solar panels, the movement of electrons generates DC power which is transferred through attached wires to the pump controller.
  • The solar water pump controller is the brains of the system and with sophisticated technology and sensor inputs, it turns the submersible motor and drives the pump to push water against gravity to the surface.
  • Solar pumps are sized by calculating the total vertical feet they’ll need to push water, the pressure they need to generate, and the total water required each day.

How to Choose the Right Size Pool Pump?

  • To keep it clean and clear, all water in the pool must be fully filtered at least once a day. This is called the turnover rate. Your pump must be large enough to turn the full volume of your pool at least once a day.
  • To calculate the turnover rate of your water pump, you first need to calculate the volume of your pool.
  • After calculating the volume of the swimming pool, it is calculated according to the fact that the water pump works 6 hours a day. Divide the pool volume by 6 to determine the hourly flow required by the pool pump. Select the appropriate swimming pool pump according to the required flow.
B

How to select water pump extension lines?

The solar water pump comes with a cable of 2 meters. The length can be customized according to your actual needs. Customers can also extend the cable themselves.

  • Notes for selecting cables:

  • 1. Select waterproof cables.

  • 2. Select 3-wire

  • 3. 2.5sq cables are recommended below 50m; 4sq cables for 50m-100m; 6sq cables for 100m-200m.

C

Is a battery necessary? How to choose a battery?

The battery is not necessary, if you need to use it at night or in rainy weather, you can choose Difful AC/DC hybrid solar submersible pump.

If you need to use a battery, a charge manager must be connected. The voltage after the battery is connected needs to meet the voltage of the water pump. The connection method of charging manager is shown in the figure.

D

How to Choose a Solar Panel?

The power of the solar photovoltaic panel array is recommended to be 1.3 times or more than the power of the water pump. The voltage of the solar photovoltaic panel array needs to meet the voltage range of the water pump.

Example:

3 Inch Plastic Impeller Solar Submersible Pump

Model: 3DPC3.5-95-72-750

  • Pump power: 750w
  • Best input voltage: 90-120v
  • Maximum open circuit voltage: 160v

Requirements for solar photovoltaic panel array: power ≥ 750w*1.3 (that is, power ≥ 975w)

  • VMP voltage > 90v
  • VOC voltage < 160v

Solar panel:

  • power 330w
  • VMP voltage 37.26v
  • VOC voltage 45.64v

3 solar panels in series:

  • power 330w*3=990w
  • VMP voltage 37.26v*3=111.78v
  • VOC voltage 45.64v*3=136.92v

In this case, the power and voltage requirements of the pump can be satisfied, so this solar photovoltaic panel array scheme is acceptable.

Pool Pump Troubleshooting

It's great if your pump has been running and you've never had any problems. But there will come a day when something goes wrong with your pump and you need to fix it. Knowing some of the most common pump problems will help you deal with them when they occur.
A

Pump Leaking

The most common causes of pool pump leaks include damaged impeller housing O-rings, poor shaft seals, poor thread sealant, and constricted threads on the discharge pipe.

In most cases, these parts can be easily purchased and replaced for a fraction of the cost of calling a professional. Identify the leaking part, take the system apart and replace it, and you'll be back up and running in no time.

Water Pump Not Pumping

When water is not drawn into the pump, it cannot reach the filter and pass through the system properly. The first thing to look for is a blockage in the system.

First, check the separator and pump basket to make sure they are not clogged. Next, check the impeller for debris that could impede its motion. Turn on the pump and remove all debris.

Another potential cause could be a leak in the suction line. Since air has less mass than water, the pump will suck in air instead of water. Check the lines for leaks and patch any found.

B

The Pump Motor Won’t Start

The first thing to check is the circuit breaker to make sure it hasn't been tripped. If the circuit breaker is on and the pump still won't turn on, there may be an electrical problem and you may need to replace the motor.

The Solar Pump Motor Spontaneously Turns Off

If this happens, the motor is likely overheating. Check the pump vents to make sure nothing is blocking airflow. If it keeps happening, you may need to install something to shade the pump if possible.

If the problem persists, it may be an electrical problem, and unless you are an electrician, you may need to call in a professional.

The Solar Pool Pump Motor is Making Noise

All pump motors make some noise. However, if your pump is making a different sound than it is running normally, there may be a problem.

If it's just vibration, putting the pump on a rubber pad might do the trick. But if it's a low growling sound, the problem could be cavitation, which means the pump isn't getting enough water and is sucking in air.
